Congratulations: Noah Palmer-Licht and Yuka Cooper were recently promoted to the rank of shodan (black belt). Their fine character and dedication to the art were demonstrated during their promotion test. We are very proud of their accomplishment.
JAPAN DISASTER RELIEF: Sensei Tony and Mary Anne recently returned home from spending 3 weeks in Ishinomaki Japan, one of the worse hit towns by the earthquake and tsunami, working with the relief group "Be One Tohoku Aid": http://www.b-1.jp/tohoku/en/

JAPAN CLASS TRIP: Recently, Sensei Tony and Mary Anne took 6 black belts to Japan for martial art training and to experience Japanese culture. We practiced aikido and karate at several locations and observed a children's karate class, an aikido class, kendo (fencing) class and kyuudo (archery) classes at other locations. Sensei Tony also got a brief sumo lesson at a local izakaya ;) The highlight of the trip was when we practiced aikido in the Butokuden, in Kyoto, (one of the most famous and historic martial art centers in Japan). Between martial art training sessions we visited Kyoto (the cultural center of Japan) and Okayama, and stayed 2 days at the base of Mount Fuji. It was a memorable trip!
